Vision for Youth Ministry Program

We desire our Youth Director to participate fully in a relationship with God by living out their faith, willing to share the Gospel and sharing their lives with others.

The primary objective of youth ministry at Emmanuel is to build meaningful relationships with children, youth and their families that foster growth in Jesus Christ.

We want to create a loving and welcoming atmosphere for children, youth, and their families.

We want to encourage children and youth to explore and grow in their relationship with God through active learning and serving both inside the church, within the larger community and in the world.



·         Responsible to: God, Senior Pastor, Council, Families

·         Loves God, loves people and ESPECIALLY loves young people

·         Commit to an average of 25 hours a week to the congregation. This position requires flexible hours including days, evenings and weekends.

·         Design and lead ministry to children and youth from birth through transitioning to college

·         Develop weekly schedule in coordination with the Senior Pastor to ensure accountability and establish healthy ministry boundaries

·         Plan, develop, and implement programming for Elementary (GROW), Sunday School, Middle School, and High School ages

·         Attend worship at Emmanuel each Sunday, making sure to attend each service at least once a month

·         Be an advocate for and educate the congregation regarding the hopes, concerns and needs of children and youth

·         Pray for the youth and families of our community

·         Regularly communicate with the Pastor and Children’s Ministry Representative on the Council

·         Work to empower a team of adults to work with youth and families in the congregation

·         Work to develop leadership within youth; mentor youth to help them develop a sense of vocational calling

·         Seek to attend important community events such as sporting events and concerts when possible

·         Develop a relationship ministry with youth (eating lunch at school, meals with families, etc.)

·         Be capable of using technology such as computers, email, social media, etc.

·         Provide communications between the youth program and families, youth, church leadership, and the congregation (newsletter, email, social media, Emmanuel’s website)

·         Assist with Confirmation classes when appropriate

·         Keep records of youth participation and give input on the annual youth ministry budget in partnership with the Senior Pastor and Council Rep

·         Plan and lead opportunities for youth retreats, fellowship times and Christian service (eg. outdoor ministry, lock-ins, mission trips)

·         Maintain connections with high school graduates and oversee outreach to these individuals

·         Ensure that Emmanuel’s child and youth policies are observed in the youth ministry settings

·         Maintain confidentiality while sharing prayer concerns with Senior Pastor when appropriate

·         Organize Vacation Bible School

·         Notify Senior Pastor prior to any unforeseen absence from regularly schedule hours and duties


The congregation will provide the following: (per council approval)

·         Prayer and support from the Senior Pastor, Council, congregation and families

·         Salary based on 25/week and reassess every 3 to 6 months; $15 to $20 an hour based on experience.

·         Continuing education money of up to $1,000 per year

·         Mileage reimbursement at national rate per mile

·         Approved incidental expenses such as postage, stationary, sporting events, pizza parties, etc.

·         Holidays



·         Solid understanding of the Christian faith and a strong desire to nurture children and youth in the Christian faith

·         High school graduate or equivalent

·         Spiritual maturity and high moral and ethical conduct

·         Sense of call and passion for working with children and youth

·         Understanding of Lutheran theology or willingness to learn; supports Emmanuel’s Vision, Mission, and LCMC’s mission

·         Generate new ideas and programs while also valuing the team concept of ministry with both the congregation and leadership

·         Demonstrate an ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement a children/youth ministry

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer skills

·         Proven ability to work effectively with youth, parents, and volunteers

·         Servant-leader

·         CPR certification or willingness to become certified
